Question:
I am invited to my niece’s first holy communion. I don’t agree with the Catholic view of communion; however, I feel I should be gracious and go. Am I being a hypocrite to join in a celebration of something I disagree with? How do I explain this to my children who would be going with me. Also, how do you explain why people of different nationalities have similar physical characteristics? For example, orientals have a look peculiar to them, as do caucasions, African-Americans, Italians, Eskimos, etc. How did this happen? I know at the tower of Babel, God scattered the people and confused their language. But what about the way people look – didn’t everyon look about the same at one time?
Answer:
Just explain as you said, “That you do not agree with the Catholic view because it contradicts Scripture.” Here is an opportunity to explain what you do believe to your family. Sit down and open the Bible with them. Second question. I don’t know the answer. There are two views. 1) God made the differences when He changed the languages. And 2) that living in certain climates and environment brought about changes over time. We might have to wait till heaven to find out.
