Question:
My brother is 36 years old and is Bi-polar/manic depressed along with some other mental problems. He is mentally 14 years old. He is very much into Sylvia Brown, the Psychic. He seems to think that if you don’t get this life right, you can kill yourself and come back and try it again. (He has tried suicide several times, but before following Sylvia) He also thinks that everyone is right if that’s what they believe. He thinks that a murderer is right if they believe they are. He is easily swayed due to his mental problems. This is what he says Sylvia taught him. Can you enlighten me as to what she is and believes? Can you point me in the right direction for some books about her teaching? I don’t want to really study her because to me it’s Satan. I am trying to turn my brother around, but he turns me off if I get to “Biblical”. Please help in any way you can. Thank you, Stephanie
Answer:
Sylvia Browne’s psychic ability manifested at the age of three. Living in Kansas City, Missouri, she privately shared her gift with family and friends for many years. In 1964, Browne relocated to California — she now resides in Campbell, CA — and began a professional career in paranormal research, soon using her psychic ability to aid the police in missing-persons and unsolved-murder cases. It has been in the capacity of so-called “psychic detective” that many may be familiar with Browne, through her many appearances on the U.S.-syndicated talk show “The Montel Williams Show.” On that show, she has demonstrated her ability to reportedly communicate with spirits of the deceased. According to Browne, she sees both earthbound ghosts, which look as real as a living person to her, and visiting spirits from the “Other Side,” who have a semi-transparent look and almost no voice presence but who often use gestures and pantomime to get a message across. Browne is not only a psychic, but a deep trance medium who allows her spirit guide, “Francine,” to enter her body and communicate with people directly. Acording to what “Francine” has said, she is not an alien presence nor an “ascended master,” but simply a person who resides on the “Other Side.” In 1986, Browne began her own spiritual organization, Society of Novus Spiritus, a Gnostic Christian church with 40 ministers at last count, all trained by Browne to help spread her philosophy. The church and its ministers offer classes in psychic development, meditation, hypnosis, and other subjects. According to Browne’s website, her goals are “…to prove that the soul survives death, that God is a real and living presence, and that there is a Divine Plan to our lives….” In addition to psychic readings by phone (priced at $450 per) and television appearances, Browne conducts lectures, seminars, classes, hypnosis, past-life regressions, and haunted house investigations. She has authored a number of books resulting from her parapsychology research, including ”Journey of the Soul” and ”Conversations With the Other Side.” Sylvia is truly on a mission for God. Simply put, she is determined to show the world that the soul survives death. In addition she wants to emphasize that God, both Father and Mother God, are infinitely loving Beings, not full of wrath and hate as represented by many of today’s religions. Sylvia feels that all people can reach God by knowledge and reason, rather than relying upon faith alone. For any question your mind can raise, God will provide an answer; the trick is being able to understand that answer – which Sylvia does on a daily basis, and it gets stronger and stronger with each person she counsels. To help Sylvia on this mission, God gave her a psychic ability that is unmatched by anyone, which is evident to all who have seen her work on television shows. Many times she has appeared on the Montel Williams Show, Leeza, Unsolved Mysteries, etc; where her astonishing insights and communications with the dead are nothing short of miraculous. Sylvia began her professional career as a psychic on May 8, 1973 with a small meeting in her home. Within one year her practice had grown very large and she decided to incorporate her business as the Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research. Wanting to make her work as professional as possible, then as now, Sylvia maintains required business licenses, is a member of a national consumer protection agency, and donates a lot of time to charitable organizations and working with police. Her business has remained in the same general vicinity since beginning her work. Sylvia’s family line includes several practicing psychics and mediums. Her maternal grandmother, Ada, was an established and respected counselor and healer in Kansas City MO. This familial psychic talent has also passed on to her son Christopher Dufresne as well as his daughter Angelia. There seems to be a genetic component necessary to create exceptional psychics, Sylvia’s bloodline carries that predisposition to excellence. As Sylvia says, “Anyone can learn to play the piano, but not everyone is a concert pianist.” STAY AWAY FROM THESE KINDS OF PERSONS. DANGER! DANGER TO YOUR SPIRITUAL HEALTH!
