Our listener asks, “Pastor Jesse, Last Sunday, Scottie Scheffler won the Masters. In his interviews and print media he said ‘I just wanted to Glorify God.’ My question is this: How does it Glorify God when a Christian athlete wins a competition? What if the runner up is also a Christian, but he did not win? Does that mean that God did not favor him to win? Maybe he did not pray hard enough! (sarcastic humor). I think you know what I’m trying to get at. It’s not like the Calvinistic view of ‘God controls everything and even controls our destiny and actions.’ I guess it’s like a friend of mine after a different person won a golf tournament, and he said ‘God helped me win.’ Upon hearing that, my friend said, ‘Does that mean that God was against the other player?'” Thanks, Mike
