Q # 2517564

Question:

Dr. Lindstrom, in Judges 19:29 what is the meaning of this verse, did the Levite literally divide his concubine with a knife?

Answer:

This is a true event… the concubine was cut up into 12 pieces. One must put this into perspective of the times. Judges 21:25 says, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” As you can see it was a lawless time. Probably like today… no such thing as sin, questioning what is immoral IF the question is ever brought up. The concubine was divided as a form of revenge for the men ravaging her during the night. You must remember the type of person who did this… reread judges 21:25… this was right in his eyes and he did it!
