Question:
Preacher, I believe you are making a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak when it comes to John 6:47. Previous to this verse, in verse 40, Jesus had already told them who and what to believe. It is possible, as the newer versions state, that the words “on me” were added later by a zealous believer because possibly he wanted to stress verse 40. With or without the phrase in verse 47, in context, the reader should be able to understand it is believing on/in Jesus that gives everlasting life.
Answer:
Who has the right to ‘add or subtract’ from the Word of God. See Revelation 22:18,19. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
