Question:
How can you agree with the Calvinist’s position of unconditional election? In order for a person to be saved, does not a person have to “believe”? That is a condition God has said in His Word that must be met before a person can receive eternal life. Just because there is something we must do (believe Jesus as our God and Savior) in order to be saved does not take away God’s soverignty. He doesn’t have to save us at all but He does when we believe.
Answer:
Unconditional Election as taught by Calvin states that belief is a consequence of being saved. Calvin taken that the elect were unconditionally saved based upon not even faith. God elected and you believed as an evidence that you were elected. That is not true. If you are saying that we are not elected on the basis of anything that we do ‘good or bad’, I would agree. But Calvin excludes even faith. WRONG!
