Question:
10-20-2002 In Gen.15:13, God told Abram that his descendants will be slaves (in Egypt) for 400 years. Yet, in Ex.12:40,41 it says that the children of Israel left Egypt 430 years (to the day!) Where did the 30 “extra” years come from?
Answer:
During the reign of Joseph as second in command to the Pharaoh, Israel did not live in slavery. It was after the death of the Pharaoh of Joseph’s time (30 years) that another Pharoah came along that didn’t recognize Joseph and they were persecuted for 400 years. Total time in Egypt is 430 years.
