Dr. Lundstrom: I enjoy your program and have read a lot of the questions. Your commment on tongues was “no one speaks in tongues today”. I do and have for many years and so do the people in the churches in New York State where I lived until 1999.
Answer:
If you are speaking in a foreign language with no training then you have the real gift. You must compare what you are experiencing with the Scriptures. In Acts 2:5-8 we read, “And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?” The Greek word for tongue in verse eight and the word language in verse six is in the Strongs Concordance NT:1258 dialektos (dee-al’-ek-tos). We get our English word ‘dialect’ from this word. It means that they spoke not just in a foreign language, but a specific ‘dialect’ of that language. People had come to Jerusalem from all over the world for Pentecost and were amazed that they heard the gospel proclaimed in the very dialect of the foreign language that they were born and raised with in their land. Can you identify the language and the specific ‘dialect’ of the language that you speak? If so then you are responsible to evangelize the people that speak that language. Tongues were given as a sign to the LOST AND NOT THE SAVED. 1 Corinthians 14:22 says, “Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.” How many people have you led to the Lord in tongues? Let us go to the mall together and I would like to see the response of the unsaved to what you speak. If you have the real gift revival should break out. What is done today by everyone that I have met is done by the Mormons, Buddists, Hindus, Muslims, the tribes in the jungle, by the medium in a Satanic seance, and etc., etc. Seems like if this is the real gift why does God give it to those who reject Jesus Christ and His Word. Send me a tape sample of what you speak and let’s get a qualified linguist to identify what language and dialect you are speaking. I am still looking for someone who has the genuine gift today.
