Question:
A comment on Jer.10 (the cut-downtree in the forest) When one cuts down a tree (Jer.10:3), they are taking the source of its nurishment away from it.(Isa.53:2 – a tender plant…a root out of dry ground). When they deck it with silver and gold and fasten it with nails so it doesn’t move, they are trying to make it look “alive” standing up with “new growth”; and yet it was CUT OFF at the roots. The cross was CUT OFF at the roots and was fashioned in an upright position. It was dead; and held “death” on it. It was the “tree of death” to the ONE hanging on it; and yet this “tree of death” became the “tree of life” to the believer. The ONE hanging on it was “decked” with a “crown” of thorns, and yet it resulted in death; and yet the one “trusting” in that “finished work” at Calvary has “everlasting LIFE”
Answer:
Read many passages like Isaiah 44:14-17. ‘He heweth him down cedars….And the residue thereof he MAKETH A GOD.’ THIS WAS IDOLATRY.
