Question:
Hi Dr. Lindstrom, Jim Hoskinson from Clw. Your so busy at Church, I thought this would be faster. Lol Since Jesus was the Passover lamb, that was sacrificed on the 14th of Nisan, how was he also able to eat the Passover with his disciples and still be the Passover lamb in the same timeline?
Answer:
Exodus 12:6 “And you shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening [literally: ‘between the evenings’]. This allows for the Passover to offered on the afternoon of the ‘preparation day’ or the afternoon of the ‘Passover’. Jesus ate the passover on Tuesday night, therefore they offered a lamb that afternoon. Jesus was crucified on the afternoon of the passover which turned out to be Wednesday afternoon. Remember that the ‘EVENING’ is the afternoon of the preceding day. On the week that Jesus was crucified the passover [the 14th day of the first month] occurred on Thursday. Thursday night came before Thursday and began on Wednesday at 6:00 pm. The evening therefore was on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Thanks Jim for the good question. My article on ‘Good Wednesday?’ or ‘Good Friday? explains this in detail.
