Q # 3397292

Question:

Hank: Love your show. I was PD at WFIV in Orlando (same owner as WLVU) when they dropped Christian talk for adult-standards music last year. (In all fairness, I think WLVU was forced into their change when Salem took over WTBN and WTWD.) Three questions for you:1> Why do you say the NIV tries to do away with the doctrine of hell? It does distinguish Hades from Gehenna, but it doesn’t seem to me that it attempts to mask the idea of punishment for sin.2> What’s your feeling regarding the Alexandrian vs. Byzantine text families of the NT?(note on these: I’ve read James White’s THE KING JAMES ONLY CONTROVERSY)3> I encountered a brother up north some years ago who does a show in New Jersey and preaches preterism. What comments do you have on that whole issue? Thanks!– Bill Smith,

Answer:

1]. The NIV is based on a corrupt text and is a “Dynamic Equivalence” rather than a true translation. As a result of these problems, many verses and words such as ‘hell’ aare missing while others are not translated correctly. The word ‘hell’ is simply missing in many places in the NIV. By the way, Hell is not for those that have ‘committed sins’, but rather for those who have rejected Jesus Christ as their Savior. See John 3:18, 36. 2). The Alexandrinus generally contains all the books of the Bible that are in today’s Bibles. Unfortunately, it also contains all four books of the Maccabees, the Epistles of Clement, as well as several others books, which are not considered part of today’s Bible. This is the general situation exists with most texts… they are either missing texts or have additional texts which are not canonical. The best text available toay is the ‘Textus Recepticus’ which has withstood the test of time and scrutiny. 3) Preterism is wrong and is a basic denial of the prediction of the future by the Bible writers.
