Q # 6638774

Question:

Hi Dr.Lindstrom, would you give me your ideas on what is meant in John 20:23. Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. Thank you. Jim in Clw.

Answer:

The ‘power of God unto savation’ is in the gospel. Rom 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Every believer has the same power to forgive sins as did the apostles through the message that we bring. The message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I can say to one who accepts the gospel of Jesus Christ that their sins are forgiven on the authority of God’s word. I can also say to the one who rejects the gospel of Jesus that his sin are retained.
