Question: “I’m starting to doubt OSAS because I come across some scriptures like Revelation 3:5 and II Corinthians 6:1 and I was wondering does the bible teach that you can lose your salvation i am going to study it myself I just want to make sure I’m sharing the right thing but I want to know your opinion.”
Answer: Thank you for your question. There are numerous passages in the Bible that teach eternal security within the context. You can check out a video on our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/o23kCinikWA
Revelation 3:5 uses the phrase “he that overcometh”, which is defined in 1 John 5:4-5 as “he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God.” This is what happens when you believe that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose again for the payment of your sins. This is believing the record that God has said about His Son (cf. 1 John 5:10-13). Revelation 3:5 is a promise that those who have believed on Jesus would never be removed from the Book of Life.
2 Corinthians 6:1 is the beginning of a warning from the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. He telling them that they should be workers together for the sake of the gospel. Anything else would lead to division and ultimately waste the opportunity to advance the gospel through them. This would be why he used the phrase “in vain”. It does not mean that they believed incorrectly or lost their salvation. It is a warning not to waste away their opportunity and work together.
I pray you find peace and comfort in the Word of God, my friend! We are eternally secured in Jesus Christ!
